artist bio Landscape impressionist Will Hurd returns to the art community with new works at Brightside Trading in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Will Hurd is a nationally recognized for his vibrant use of color and bold brushstrokes. Will first began painting in 1973 and rather than academic study, he developed his craft learning from artists such as Bill Burford of Waukomis, Oklahoma and then Richard D. Thomas in Colorado. For many years Will, his wife Elizabeth and two sons, James and Thomas, lived in Santa Fe and Taos, New Mexico. While living in the area, Will had the privilege to study with both Rod Goebel and Julian Robles. After moving to Guthrie, Oklahoma in 1992, Will continued to paint exhibiting in New Mexico and in Oklahoma as well as Texas, Colorado, Florida and New England. He participated extensively in one man shows in New Mexico as well as the Oklahoma Gallery in the Onmiplex in Oklahoma City. In Oklahoma, Will exhibited with great success at the Sandstone Gallery in Guthrie as well as the Bricktown Gallery in Oklahoma City. Beginning in 1999 and continuing through the millenium a number of Will's galleries closed. With the obligations of two teen-age sons and a few minor illnesses in the family, Will had fewer demands for paintings, and less time. He put away his brushes for a while, but in 2005 he picked them up again. While working very hard to fulfill his many commission obligations, Will is beginning to amass a number of works for gallery placement. Will is very enthusiastic about his new gallery in Guthrie, Brightside Trading. Additionally, Will is enjoying teaching again, and is currently accepting students in his studio. Will enjoys passing on his knowledge and experience to new students as much as he enjoyed gaining the knowledge from his mentors. http://www.willhurdstudios.com/ To view and purchase work from our featured artist, visit www.Brightsidetrading.com |
